When it comes to keeping skin healthy and radiant in the winter months, it can be quite tricky. Most people think that you can still use your same skin care products in the winter, as in the summer. However, thats not always entirely true. As an expert I have spent a lot of time, energy and training to learn how to properly care for your skin. Here's what you need to know...
For starters: your cleanser and toner go together like bread and butter, peanut butter and jelly, shampoo and conditioner. You can have one with out the other but really, its just not quite the same! Now knowing that, here's what you need to do next:
Make sure you have the proper cleanser and toner. As mentioned, this is my first major rule for your skin care regime.
Educate yourself. We all have different needs. Going to your local/favourite spa and getting a skin analysis is a fantastic way to learn and understand the conditions of your skin. This is great information to know because you will find out how to treat your skin, discover what factors come into play and your your genetic code - which will be your 'type' of skin. Note: As estheticians we cannot change your genetic code, but we can assist in helping keep the concerns or conditions you have at bay, or help correct some. Promise!
Team your cleanser up with serums, moisturizers, and eye treatments. You need ALL of these things! I'll tell you why:
Serums help hydrate your skin. They also can penetrate deeper into the epidermis, to not only help your concerns but aide healthier, brighter and softer skin in the long term. It helps plump fine lines, aids in helping pigmentation and more intense hydration. See why serums are awesome?
I always choose a thicker moisturizer in the winter. Why? The cold and frosty air, along with the heat inside our homes, cars and buildings dry out the air and also our skin. That gel moisturizer you’re using that you fell in love with in the summer? Put him aside and grab one with a thicker consistency. Remember to reference your 'skin conditions' that I mentioned above when choosing the right one.
And a good eye cream is important for exactly the reason your Mother told you it was - it keeps your under eye skin taunt and wrinkle free.
Do all of that and your skin will thank you MAJORLY in the long term!
Here is a list of the products I personally use during the winter season that actually can be used for almost, but not all skin types and concerns. *Please note almost, but not all*
Organics line from Caryl Baker Visage
Kombucha Cleasner, Spirulina Toner, Eyelight Serum, Phytocell Peptide Booster, Eyelight Cream, Phytocell Cream, 'In Lips We Trust' (Use twice a day - morning and night for best results)
Caryl Baker Visage Paypa Enzyme Scrub (use twice a week on damp skin, or once a week on dry skin) *BONUS TIP* If you feel the urge to use a mechanical scrub, choose something less abrasive in the winter. Enzyme scrubs are gentler on skin.
